Blockmounting

As South Africa's oldest blockmounting company, we are able to offer one of the most durable, cost-effective ways of displaying posters, products, messages, instructions or any form of communication. These prints can be blockmounted using either a wet or dry process on 3, 6 or 12mm chip board and can be cut to any size up to 1.8 m x 3.6 m

If so required, we are able to finish off the blockmounts with a plastic edging called channelling, available in a variety of colours. This gives the blockmount a professional finish - similar to framing - at a fraction of the cost.

The Process of Blockmounting

Wet Application

The blockmounting process. Wet Application Blockmounting is a process whereby a paper, photographic or canvas print is mounted on a 12mm Chipboard(wooden) base with a paste.

This is commonly known as wet mounting and is done with a paste (glue) which is put onto the chipboard with a roller to achieve a smooth even layer of paste over the whole area, the print is put onto the chipboard by hand and then it goes into a vacuum frame and compressed under pressure for a few minutes to allow the paste and print to fuse properly.

Once the blockmount comes out of the vacuum frame the edges of the chipboard are then painted black to finish off the blockmount.

For an even better finish to your blockmount, you can ask for channeling to be placed around the edges. This protects the edges of your blockmount and also makes it look much neater.

Machine mounting.

Blockmounting is also done using a method called dry or machine mounting. This process involves putting a double sided mounting sheet onto the chipboard and the print or canvas is then applied to this which then goes through a set of rollers to give a clean smooth finish to the blockmount, as with wet mounts the edges can be painted or channeling can be applied.
